The trend of gender reveal parties is one that has started to take off in Australia in a big way. The most important element in this celebration is of course CAKE!
When my gorgeous friend Ann, who was expecting her first bub, asked me to make her a gender reveal cake I was beyond excited and of course very honoured! Ann had her 18 week ultrasound and she and dad-to-be asked the ultrasound technician to put the gender of their baby in a sealed envelope. That very special envelope was delivered to me, to bake a cake that would reveal if the little one was a boy or girl. This is definitely one of the fabulous privileges that come with being a cake decorator.
So off to the kitchen I went with my secret little envelope….
I had free reign on the design of the cake, so opted for a modern ganache drip style cake where I could incorporate both pink and blue in the design whilst hiding the secret colour within. Inside was going to be a deliciously light vanilla bean cake that would easily take on the pink or blue colouring required.
The end result was this pretty water colour finished cake with white, blue and pink buttercream and a white chocolate drip. I used various sweets in pink and blue to accent the cake and finished it off with some coloured chocolate shards, blue and pink BABY letters and a pretty baby bunting. Inside was….. a secret!
So the party started with lots of guessing and bets being placed on the little baby’s gender. Boy or girl?!
The moment came where the parents-to-be cut into the cake and revealed…..
PINK!!! It’s a girl!!
